My experience in Tahiti will be unforgettable. I was fortunate enough to travel with Laird, Gabby, Reece and Brody Hamilton who are like family. My trip was filled with many adventures such as jet skiing, being dragged by a jet ski while we snorkeled (we call it power snorkeling now), stand up paddling to sand bars in the middle of the ocean, spending a lot of time with Raimana van Bastolaer and more. One of the things that stood out to me the most was being able to watch the action out at Teahupoo.
Laird and Raimana set us up on a boat to take us out to Teahupoo. We went out Wednesday the 10th and Thursday the 11th. I didn’t know what to expect, and I was definitely caught off-guard. We were surrounded by chaos – boats, jet skis, humans, surfboards, tow boards, cameras and a lot of cheering! Everyone’s waiting for the waves just to see who’s going to get on it. Finally, we started to see surfers take off. People like Dylan Longbottom, Laurie Towner, Albee Layer, Bruce Irons, and Billy Kemper were all being towed by Laird, Raimana and a couple others. I mean, come on, it doesn’t get any better than that!
Our boat driver did a pretty good job as he always tried to get us as close as possible to the surfers on the waves. Being so close allowed us to see the surfers up close and experience the wave’s tremendous roar. It will be exciting to see how everything turns out when the movie is released.
