East Coast surfing is a decidedly quixotic pursuit. But nobody tilts at windmills with more enthusiasm than Ben Gravy, who made the most of a legitimately firing swell in his latest video.
The East Coast has a unique ability to inspire this sort of sisyphean effort. That’s because, when it’s on, it’s epic, but those moments are so few and far between. Wave riders are more often than not left to chase after phantoms – trying to make the most of small, inconsistent days, as they pray to their chosen deity for the next hurricane swell.
So that means when the swell does come, boy do they show up. This Atlantic hurricane season has been a weird one, but the surf community managed to eke out every last drop of stoke. The latest storm to arrive on their doorstep was Hurricane Humberto, which delivered some absolutely mental surf.
“(The) 2025 Atlantic Hurricane season has been something quite special,” summed up Gravy in the caption. “Even though I haven’t been able to just hang out and surf in my backyard like some years past, it’s been an epic season of waves so far. We made a call and waited to see how this storm would develop, low and behold some pumping hurricane surf arrived this morning and we absolutely scored.”
