The World Surf League is mourning the loss of a beloved member of its team. According to an announcement on social media, the WSL’s longtime Global Safety and Security Director Bern Page has passed away.

As the Global Safety and Security Director, Page was responsible for the safety and security of athletes, executives, and employees at WSL events. This included security, medical, water safety, crisis management and more.

“For nearly a decade, Bern guided our safety operations with calm authority and quiet leadership, earning the trust of all who worked with him,” wrote the WSL on Instagram. “His unwavering dedication helped set and sustain the highest standards across our competitions and events. His commitment to care, integrity, and professionalism left a profound mark not only on our organization but on everyone fortunate enough to work alongside him. Bern approached every challenge with humility and resolve. His absence will be profoundly felt across our team. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who knew him. He will be deeply and sincerely missed.”

Below the post, the best of the best in the world of surfing paid tribute to Page in the comments, from athletes, to shapers, to his coworkers at the WSL. There was no reason given as to Page’s cause of death. We reached out to the WSL for clarification but have yet to hear back. We’ll update this story as more information becomes available.
