No doubt every surfer has at some point imagined what it would be like to have a powered surfboard. No more arm-burning paddle-outs, missed waves or bogging in the flats. It sounds like a dream.
But at what cost?
Lind Surfboards has a very precise answer to that question: $25,000. The company makes a jet-powered surfboard that does promise all the benefits of turbocharged paddling, but you’ll have to pay the price of a compact car for the privilege.
Unless you’re a YouTuber, of course. Skimboarder and social media guru Blair Conklin recently got to take a Lind board out for a test run, as he outlined in his latest video (below).
Unsurprisingly, Conklin and company decided to run before they walked. On the first outing, they took the boards out in some actual surf, which had never actually been attempted on the devices before. “We took the Lind Surfboard straight to the waves, which is not what they’re built for,” he explained. “We basically went straight to the black diamond for these jet boards. Now we’re going to go to the bunny slopes and ride some nice flat water. That’s what they were built for.”
From there, they took to calmer waters to cruise around on the shockingly quick craft. Is it the future of surfing? No. But it’s fun to watch.
