We’ve been fans of Brett Barley’s vlog, Life on Water, for some time now. The man’s surfing speaks for itself, but his candor and honest to goodness humility and niceness when he speaks to camera (can we call it Southern charm?) is a more mature, refined addition to the genre that’s often missing.
And nowhere does that come through more than Barley’s recent episode in which he breaks down a wave he caught earlier this month at Pipe.
“That wave I caught at Pipeline was the best wave I’ve ever caught at Pipeline,” says Barley. “Now, it’s not as good as waves other guys get and will it be a Wave of the Winter contender? Probably not. But I don’t care. I am psyched.”
And in the world of vlogs is anyone else so hard-charging whilst also being so loveably self-effacing? Probably not.
“This is my thirteenth year out here,” Barley goes on. “And to get one that tall off the takeoff that spit that hard, that was a special one for me and I’m super pumped. That was my second day here.”
Hats off to the man on a super impressive wave.
