At 15, Caroline Marks was the youngest surfer (man or woman) to qualify for the WSL Championship Tour. Carissa Moore, a CT veteran by now with three world titles under her belt, also has a claim to fame. When she won her first title in 2011 she became the youngest to do so. She was 18.
Before the 2018 CT season kicked off on the Gold Coast, Caroline Marks did what adroit competitors do best – she took the time to understand the ins and outs of a successful career by spending time with Carissa, picking her brain.
“Ever since I started surfing Carissa has always been that one person that I wanted to be like and I wanted to surf like,” Caroline said in between waves during her visit to the North Shore. Modeling Carissa’s style seems to have had an impact. Caroline currently sits fifth on the Jeep Leaderboard – just two slots shy of her idol.
“My best advice to Caroline is to just keep doing what you’ve been doing because it’s been working,” said Moore.
It may be too early to call a world title in Caroline’s future, but given her success thus far it sure seems like it’s not a matter of if but when.
