You cannot discuss surfing’s most prominent figures without mentioning both of the Hobgoods. With countless contest victories, a World Title, and style and aptitude that would make even the most steezy of surfers reevaluate their technique, it is no mystery why they raised money well above their initial goal. People are genuinely excited to hear their story.
For those who are unaware, with the help of director Justin Purser , CJ and Damien Hobgood have set out to raise $80,000 to create an in-depth, tell-all film of their intriguing, yet troublesome road in becoming professional surfers. The film, however, goes beyond simple autobiographical properties. It is intended to illustrate the adversity associated with having a twin, as well as sibling rivalries and the struggle of finding one’s identity.
We wanted to see if the surfing community would even want to see this film, would they want to hear out story and be a part of telling it? I’ve been overwhelmed and grateful for the outpouring of support we’ve had. We also wanted to go this route so that we could be completely truthful and honest about our lives in the film without having to change the story to fit another agenda.” – Damien Hobgood
