Another day, another wave pool. This latest freshwater attraction is notable for coming to the birthplace of one of surfing’s greatest icons: Cocoa Beach, Florida.
The wave in question will be located at the Westin Cocoa Beach Resort & Spa. The 420-million project broke ground in October 2024, promising a massive, 502-key hotel with a bevy of luxury amenities attached. As Space Coast Daily reports, developers just revealed that the attraction will also include a FlowSurf standing wave.
FlowSurf is a standing wave created by FlowRider. The venerable wave company has been around for a long time, best known for making the type of shallow standing waves featured on cruise ships. FlowSurf differs from those systems in that it is a deepwater wave, which allows the use of traditional surfboards with fins.
“Cocoa Beach has always been known for its surfing culture, so it’s exciting to see a new attraction that builds on that identity,” said Nikki McCoy Freeman of McCoy Freeman Group at Compass. “What’s especially encouraging is that the Westin is planning to make these experiences available to local residents, not just hotel guests. That’s something I think our community will really appreciate.”
