The Inertia

Just off the coast of Galicia, Spain, lies a place called “Coast of Death,” or  Costa da Morte. Despite its name, it’s a beautiful place with a fantastic landscape. Green hills roll into rocky cliffs, which drop steeply into the ocean below.

The day these photos were taken was a day filled with adrenalin – we couldn’t shoot from land, and the forecast called for big. We chartered a small fishing boat, and headed out, in spite of our nerves. It was an almost perfect session. Some of the waves were perfect:lefts and rights, huge tubes, and hovering around the 12-18 foot mark. It was the first time towing in to big waves for João Guedes, but as usual, he didn’t disappoint and snagged the biggest wave of the day. The other riders, Eric Rebiere, Alex Botelho and Antonio Silva with his partner Ramon Laureano, are accustomed to these kinds of waves, and it showed.
