All eyes were on Nazaré yesterday, but that wasn’t the only part of Portugal where the surf was good. Coxos, the surf break nestled in the famed Ericeira Surfing Reserve just an hour south of Praia do Norte, also got to have its day in the sun.
“Today was one for the books, European winter is delivering the epic conditions to Portugal,” wrote Surf Raw Files in the description for its YouTube video documenting the barrels crashing down on the famed Iberian wave. “Sixteen seconds with 8-9 feet is more than enough for an all time session at Coxos!”
The enviable footage is a welcome reminder of the variety of excellent waves available in Portugal (thankfully not all office building-sized beasts like Nazaré). It’s also a bit of a sneak preview for the types of conditions we can hope for when the one-day tube riding event Capitulo Perfeito finally rolls around. However, as good as the above video may seem, the aptly named competition only runs when the conditions at Carvacelos, Portugal are absolutely perfect, so no green light just yet.
