To most Queenslanders, Hurricane Marcia was nothing more than a brutish storm delivered from the pits hell. With torrential rain and wind gusts reaching well above one hundred miles per hour, the cyclone uprooted nearly every tree in its path and left thousands of homes without power. Conversely, surfers welcomed the storm with open arms, as the system delivered some of the best surf the East Coast of Australia has seen this year (so far). Here is Mick Fanning et al. burning legs and riding some murky hurricane tubes before the zoo arrives. But to see these excellent waves continue into next week’s kick off to the 2015 WCT at Snapper Rocks would be nothing less of exciting. Let’s cross our fingers.
