Dakota Briley is fighting for his life. The 20-year-old son of Pipeline legend Shawn Briley is currently in intensive care, battling horrific injuries after being struck by a car.
The accident occurred on Oahu’s North Shore, on the side of Kamehameha Highway. A now-expired Instagram reel from Rosie Jaffurs elaborated that Briley was standing by the side of the road at Chun’s, loading boards into a car. According to a GoFundMe started for Briley, Dakota was pinned between two vehicles and endured multiple fractures in his legs, pelvis, ribs, and skull. He has also received extensive spinal injuries.
“He’s in really rough shape and needs a miracle from God,” Dakota’s brother Ryder wrote on Instagram. “His ribs have been crushed, his spine is severed and broken in multiple places, the back of his skull has been crushed, fractured in over 8 places, from the hip down his legs have been crushed.”

Dakota’s father, Shawn Briley, was renowned in the ’90s for being one of the North Shore’s hardest chargers, before stepping out of the spotlight in 1998. Dakota had been following in his footsteps, making a name for himself in the Pipeline lineup and beyond.
“This boy is a true warrior, the strongest person I know, so stubborn, I know you’re not going anywhere,” wrote Ryder Briley in another Instagram story. “Keep fighting for us.”
