It’s been an incredible year for surf in the Mentawais (and Indo in general). I’ve been shooting and surfing Kandui Left for the last decade and each year there’s always one swell that sticks out in our minds. Nic Von Rupp and Dean Vandewalle got it this year.
Now, you’ve probably already seen Nic’s incredible film, Reef Road, but can you recall another time you’ve seen a 15-year old, 80-pound grommet willing to throw it over the ledge like this? Kids ain’t right these days.
