The Inertia

Dear Alberto,

I think all of us were surprised when you came knocking on our door with overhead surf last Tuesday. Once the fog cleared, I saw you waiting for everyone to answer your call. Light winds and long rights is something that’s hard to turn down in New Jersey. Most of us stayed out until long after the sun went down and the street lights turned on. That night, I kept tossing and turning in my sleep. I couldn’t help but wonder what the morning would bring.

It’s no secret that you’re an early bloomer for Hurricane Season. I should’ve known you were going to be shy. Did the traffic of text messages and mobile uploads scare you back out to sea? I woke up and you were gone. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed that we didn’t get to hang out more. Whatever your reason for Irish exit may be, I’m glad you showed up. You rescued us with more waves before the Memorial Day Weekend crowds, so I thank you. Anyways, can you please send your bigger brothers and sisters to come play with us in the sandbox this summer?

Love,

Tom
