Hayden Cox, the brains behind Haydenshapes Surfboards, is as much an inventor as he is a shaper. He’s the one who came up with the carbon fiber frame technology that we call FutureFlex. His Hypto Crypto was, for a time, the best-selling surfboard in the world. And now, he’s got a new shape out called the Nova.

“It’s a small wave performance groveler designed to paddle really easily, be really responsive, and turn top to bottom in small kind of waves,” Cox explained about the Nova “Anything from about waist height to about head high.”

In the release video, a handful of surfers including Micky Clarke, Evan Geiselman, Nate Tyler, Riku Matsumoto, Noah Schweitzer, Tanner Gudauskas, Warren Smith, Olai Beckman, and Kaiwi Berry, take the Nova in various constructions around the world, putting it through its paces in all sorts of waves.

“Built as a high-speed, small-wave driver, the Nova is designed for everyday conditions,” the team at Haydenshapes explained. “Easy to paddle, fast off the mark and responsive underfoot. Its wider outline carries speed through flatter sections, while the refined rocker and bottom contours keep it lively and composed in the pocket.”
