Today is the day of the Cuervo Surf Ranch Classic — if you’re reading this on October 18, at least. It’s a longboard contest, but it’s held at the Surf Ranch. It’s a funny time we’re in, isn’t it? A longboard contest (or any contest) can be held 100 miles from the ocean in the middle of a pool, and the waves will be perfect. Kassia Meador, Alex Knost, Justin Quintal, and 12 of the world’s best longboarders are heading to the Ranch tonight to get as creative as they can on a man-made wave. In the video you see above, the World Surf League had Devon Howard explain all the ins and outs. Howard is a good guy to do it, too — the Cuervo Surf Ranch Classic is, as Dave Prodan puts it, “a baby of [his] own creation.”
