Steve Aoki is predominately known for crowd surfing, but he’s broadening his horizons. The DJ recently posted a clip from an outing to Kelly Slater’s Surf Ranch, where he traded throngs of adoring fans for actual water.
Of course, seeing a celebrity in the chlorinated waters of Lemoore, California is hardly unusual. Most recently, Prince Harry was seen riding the Ranch’s train-powered wave, but Matthew McConaughey, Lewis Hamilton, Julianne Hough, Chris Hemsworth, Drew Brees, Tony Hawk, Shaun White, and Eddie Vedder have all made appearances.
So how did the electronic music megastar and expert cake thrower handle the surf? Pretty respectably, actually. Aoki logged tube time both frontside and backside, a feat which could be partially attributed to his youth as a Newport local.
