The Inertia

I have to admit, I think I might already love this film. Altogether I’ve seen two trailers – the one you see above and the first teaser. Sixty seconds total. And I hate to be to hasty, but I’m impressed. It feels very Coen Brothers, Wes Anderson, Bruce Brown.

Let’s Be Frank is a Peter Hamblin film about South African big wave surfer Frank Solomon. If you haven’t exactly heard of the man, don’t be shy. Personally, I hadn’t either. The clip below helped provide some context, and, for me at least, built up even more anticipation about this film. You see, Frank charges, and that’s exciting. I want to see more. But the best surf films have depth. Things can get boring when it’s strictly barrel after barrel after barrel. It all starts to look the same. The best surf filmmakers understand this – from Bruce Brown to Taylor Steele to Kai Neville.

In sixty seconds I’ve seen comedy, self deprecation, quality imagery, narration – all the makings for a quality surf film. Or, perhaps, just enough to get my hopes up. But I sure hope it’s not the latter.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated if and when more clips or trailers from the film become available. The full film drops September 19th on RedBull TV.
