The Inertia

If you happened to tune into the Margaret River Pro last week, you likely saw Conner Coffin’s party wave with a pod of dolphins. (If not, watch here!) Barton Lynch later put it poignantly, saying that occasional brushes with the ocean’s denizens are a nice reminder that the surfer’s playground is a thriving marine ecosystem, lest the thrill of competition cause us to forget.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the planet, a pod of porpoises recently put on a display at the Manhattan Beach pier to the delight of a surf class in the lineup.

According to KTLA 5, the dolphins hung around some 30 minutes. “Some residents who have been here for years were like, ‘We’ve never seen anything like this,'” Robin Fenlon, who shot the video, told KTLA.
