The Inertia

Eric Mailander captured this crazy drone footage last summer of a swimmer off Aptos in Monterey Bay, California. Side note: open-water swimming in the ocean is about as creepy as it gets. Props to people who have the intestinal fortitude to participate in the practice. “This is a 10-foot white shark that was patrolling up and down New Brighton State Beach when a swimmer passed through,” Mailander wrote. “The shark was just minding its own business, warming-up, but we ended up letting the swimmer know that there was a large shark in the water that we were filming. Didn’t want to cause a panic but felt we had a duty to act, even though shark warning signs are posted at this location…These sharks like the shallows since the water is warm there and interactions with swimmers, surfers, boogie boarders, and SUPs are inevitable.”

Only the best. We promise.
