Maui boy Dusty Payne won the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa in proper underdog fashion. After a dismal first half of his heat with Julian Wilson, Jeremy Flores, and Adam Melling, Payne put on a clinic in overhead Haleiwa. Coming from behind in a combo situation, Payne turned it on and posted two near-perfect scores, a 9.87 and a 9.77, for the lead.
Payne now sits in the pole position of the Reef Hawaiian Pro and pads his bank account with a cool $40,000 – not too bad for a guy that underwent surgery in July, right? Check back later for a full recap.
