Water filtration systems, return canals, and reservoirs are one of the most important components of any wave pool. In many locations around the world they can be the key piece of infrastructure that keeps a project from seeing the light of day. ADRENA, the latest development to feature an ENDLESS SURF wave pool in Saudi Arabia, took a unique approach to that by filling its pool with salt water directly from the Red Sea.
Most pools, of course, are filled with fresh chlorinated water. The ADRENA lagoon utilizes a closed-loop circulation system that draws seawater in, filters and circulates it through the lagoon, and then returns it to the Red Sea. There’s no machinery underwater in ENDLESS SURF pools, which they say allows them to return the water clean. From a surfing performance perspective, the saltwater feel is meant to enhance “buoyancy, sensation, and overall wave authenticity,” the company said in a press release.
“In a destination defined by regenerative luxury, Endless Surf brings something truly special: real saltwater waves with fully customizable profiles, right here at the Red Sea,” says Paul Chutter, President of Endless Surf. “From beginners to seasoned surfers, our ES36 creates an experience you can only expect in premier surf destinations — and now Saudi Arabia.”
Similar to many developments around the world, ADRENA’s wave pool is just one feature within a much larger resort. The “adventure and entertainment district” holds as many as 20 different activities for guests, including a standing wave, wakeboarding, a skate and BMX park, rock climbing, and more when the facility opens on March 1.
“We’re seeing a global evolution in how surfing integrates into modern destinations,” Baptiste Caulonque, Chief Commercial Officer at Endless Surf said in a press release. “From iconic coastal environments to entirely new markets, Endless Surf is enabling authentic surf experiences with versatility to match the needs of nearly any project.”
