Pardon the blatant pun, but The Inertia’s EVOLVE event has…evolved. We decided to spice things up this year. We’re still using our annual gathering of the tribe to recognize innovation and stewardship of surf and outdoor culture in all its forms. But we’re doing it at the start of the best season of the year in a place famous for its summer days: Laguna Beach, California. We’re thrilled for you to join us at The Inertia’s 7th Annual EVOLVE 2024 presented by White Claw at Rivian South Coast Theater on June 29, 2024!
The Inertia has partnered with the Rivian Theater in downtown Laguna, a historic venue known to locals as the South Coast Theater. Rivian has done a fantastic job of restoring the iconic building right across from the Pacific, and we couldn’t think of a better place to take EVOLVE to the next level.
And we can’t wait to showcase the talent at this year’s celebration: from surfers to scientists, game-changing activists to next-level athletes, the show is stacked.
–Cliff Kapono does a little bit of everything in the surfing world: he surfs extremely well, of course, with a distinct style; he even commentates at big events like the Pipe Masters. But he’s best known as a scientist and environmentalist willing to fight for the ocean playgrounds we all hold dear. Cliff will speak on some of the most important environmental issues of the day, and we’ll get his take on the Olympic Tower controversy with the Olympics in Tahiti right around the corner.
– Jamie Anderson is in the conversation as the best female competitive snowboarder ever. And she’s easily the best slopestyle rider of all time with two Olympic gold medals (and a silver in big air, too). The multi-times X Games champ isn’t afraid of change, either. She became a mother recently, and managed to make the finals of the Natural Selection tour in 2024, a discipline she’s never competed in. She talks about her evolution as an athlete.
– Lucy Osinski is an activist, CEO, and creator of GRLSWIRL, one of the largest community’s of female skateboarders on Earth. GRLSWIRL was founded “by women as a skate collective to unify people globally, cultivating authentic community.” They may have coined the phrase “world’s okayest skateboarders.” Good people indeed.
–Elliete Singleton will also be joining us from GRLSWIRL. Singleton is a filmmaker and the team photographer. She’ll dive deeper into GRLSWIRL’s mission to influence action sports marketing and culture.
–Blair Conklin is a local legend and a three-time skimboarding world champion. His enviable athletic prowess has helped turn the once-niche sport of skimboarding into a global, viral phenomenon. He talks about some of his viral moments, and discusses his path as a social media entrepreneur.
– Chad Nelsen is the longtime CEO of Surfrider, an organization dedicated to saving the places we love. Chad joins our chat with Cliff to offer deep knowledge and perspective on preserving the places we love.
