A classic Californian greeting to the lineup. Photo: @jonathanwaynefreeman//screenshot
Every surfer has been on the receiving end of loud expletives at some point in their surfing journey. It’s a rite of passage. Especially for California surfers: if you haven’t been cussed out in the lineup in the past year, have you really been surfing?
One such tirade at what appears to be San Onofre State Beach in San Diego County is making the rounds on social media. In the viral video, one angry man unleashes his full arsenal of swear words on another surfer in the parking lot. I counted upwards of an impressive 25 instances of profanity in his rant.
“Step the F%#k up!”
“Sh%t, you f%#king homeless and you live in your van you piece of sh#t.”
“I will knock you the f%#k out and you f#%king know it.”
The man starts getting creative and adding new insults into the argument, calling his adversary a “parasite” and “hooker.”
Then the man starts dropping n-words like it’s nothing and even starts to debate the teachings of Christianity.
“I am Christian,” he said. “There’s this thing called righteous anger. God f%#king allows that sh#t to happen.”
It’s anyone’s guess as to what triggered the anger. Did he get dropped in on? Back-paddled? Was someone taking too many waves? Did someone call him out for taking too many waves?
We may never know. But this is not the first, and surely not the last, surfer tantrum that Californians will unleash in surf parking lots this summer.
