The Inertia

We’re just a handful of hours away from the next WSL tour stop in Peniche, Portugal, and from the looks of things, Filipe Toledo, Tatiana Weston-Webb, and Conner Coffin are ready to kick things off. They were out earlier today at Supertubos, where the MEO Portugal Pro will go down, getting comfortable with the sandy beachbreak after weeks, if not months, of surfing reefs on the North Shore of Oahu. And for the most part, they’re looking pretty comfortable already. Filipe especially is looking very sharp, scoring some sweet tube rides and racking on the extra points at the end with floaters and inside snaps a-plenty. I’d bet money he’ll be a dangerous opponent in Portugal.

The official event window opens at 7:00 a.m. March 3, local time in Peniche, eight hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time, so it’s possible that the event could begin at 11:00 p.m. tonight on the West Coast.

There’s plenty of swell during the event window. Thursday in Portugal will start off around four to six feet but the swell will steadily build throughout the day to well overhead by the evening. The only thing to keep an eye on will be the wind, which might push the competition start to Friday with strong onshores/sideshores predicted for Thursday. Stay tuned.
