The Inertia

The 2016 Volcom Pipe Pro was undoubtedly one of the best Pipe contests in surf history. Watching three of Hawaii’s finest Pipe specialists up against Kelly Slater in a 30-minute super heat (in utter perfect Pipe conditions) was nothing short of transcendent. The entire day was everything viewers, competitors, and sponsors could hope for in a contest.

The electric final day offered up plenty of extraordinary performances, including two 10-point rides from local boys Makai McNamara and Jamie O’Brien. But just when you thought Kelly was losing his competitive drive, he reminded us all he is a true prince of Pipe after taking home $16,000 and the rightful title as the 2016 Volcom Pipe Pro champion. Could this be the confidence boost he needs for a World Title push in 2016?
