The Inertia

2014 has certainly chalked itself up as a year of transition. The ASP smells like a new car, and Brazilian Gabriel Medina sits number one in the World Rankings after defeating Joel Parkinson in the final of the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast. Certainly no small task. Even more impressive was Medina’s win over Mick Fanning earlier in the day. It would appear he wants to win a World Title.

Medina’s victory makes him the first Brazilian and only the second goofy-footer ever to win the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast.

Kelly Slater lost earlier in the day to Adriano De Souza to begin the year with an equal 5th.

And on the Women’s side, Steph Gilmore, fresh off a live performance with Kelly Slater and Jimmy Buffet, made a bold return to form with her victory over Bianca Buitendag.

The win marked Stephanie Gilmore’s fifth Roxy Pro Gold Coast Victory. Stay tuned for more from Snapper.

Competition resumes at Margaret River on April 2.
