The Inertia

Hurricane Erin has passed, but damn if we won’t squeeze every last drop of blood from the stone. Previously, we saw Nic von Rupp’s POV of what went down when that swell hit the famed Irish slab. Now, Irish charger Gearoid McDaid throws his hat in the ring with his own edit.

On day one, McDaid’s feelings upon returning to dry land were mixed: Erin had not yet lived up to the hype, but the fact that there was any swell to be disappointed by in the first place was good enough.

“It was a fun session,” he explained. “Nothing crazy like we hoped, but I had a couple fun ones. I had one pocket rocket that felt kind of sick, with a sick drop. Then one real nice vision of a crazy one that I didn’t make. It was nice to feel the power out there, and all that, but a bit of a letdown from what we thought,” he explained. “Can’t complain. Still getting some Mully in summer.”

Day two, though, turned into something special. “Was pretty mental this morning,” he concluded afterwards. “Couple of fun slabs all morning, with all the lads. Couple fun surfs after. Kind of tricky – winds kept changing, but managed to squeeze in a couple of mini-pits, here and there. We’ll see, might be another chance in the morning. One last one before the swell’s gone completely.”

Day three was nowhere near the calamitous size and power of the swell’s peak, but still a worthy end to Erin’s run.

All in all, not much more you can ask for.
