The Inertia

This is one of those things that makes everyone happy. Geese surfing man-made river waves. It’s an old clip, but it’s just pure, beautiful madness. And it has yet to be confirmed, but we think this might be the world record for geese party waves. Definitely the most geese sharing a wave that we’ve ever seen. And they seem to be totally fine with sharing the wave. It’s like Malibu for geese.

Glenwood Whitewater Park, as it’s referred to, is actually a man-made wave built in 2006 for recreational purposes (surfing/kayaking, etc…). This day was actually a 27-year high flow (think super duper high tide), and, as it turns out, humans aren’t the only creatures making use of this wave.

“The geese were really doing this the same way that humans practice the sport,” Jason Carey, the wave’s Principal River Engineer told Discovery Channel. “The final bird that came in was really the Big Kahuna bird, and he looked like he had surfed the wave before.”

For those concerned about the birds’ safety – as far as everyone knows, the birds all went home Mother Goose that evening. Cuz they’re badasses. They’re like the Greg Long and Mark Healey of geese.
