The Inertia

The Ho family and professional surfing have a very long history, a few generations of it, in fact. “Anybody who knows surfing and is a part of the surfing community knows Mike and Derek and everything they’ve done and contributed to the sport,” says Carissa Moore.

Fast forward to today, and the next generation of ripping Hawaiian royalty, Mason and Coco, have carried the legacy even further. While Mason has focused more on the freesurfing side of things, Coco made a name for herself in competition, earning her first sponsorship at age eight, and making it onto the CT in 2009 at 17 when she won Rookie of the Year. She’s been a staple on tour ever since, until a couple years ago when an injury caused her to fall off tour, just as she was starting to think it might be time to retire. “No one wants to retire off of injury,” says Coco. “I feel so good and am so stoked on surfing, everything pointed to ‘yes’ on getting back on tour and going out with a bang.”

Join Coco on her mission to re-qualify through the Challenger Series in the four-part documentary COCO, starring the ‘Flying Hawaiian’ herself. Episode one takes us to the 2021 US Open of Surfing at Huntington Beach where Coco showed she’s certainly got what it takes to re-qualify.
