The Inertia

When cyclone season rears its head on Australia’s Gold Coast, it’s an exciting thing. The waves on the Goldie just lie there waiting patiently for cyclones to begin their whirling dance out at sea, sending lines of swell charging towards its coast. And when it happens… oh, it’s like Christmas. World-famous waves light up like a tree, emerging from the sea in great foamy walls of water. Occy was there, as were many others — it is the Gold Coast, after all, and when it happens, filmmaker Lachlan McKinnon is there to capture it all — and in the video above, he did a better job than usual.
