Dakoda Walters is in awe of Taj Burrow. “Taj is one of my favorite surfers ever,” he says. “To get an opportunity to make a video with someone as good as he is just… crazy.”
For the uninformed, Dakoda Walters is a 16-year-old from Angourie. Mick Fanning called him “the next big thing.” He grew up in spitting distance from Angourie Point, and he has become one of the best young surfers on the planet.
Dakoda went on a trip with Taj Burrow—an intimidating prospect, one would assume. Taj gave him lessons “on the finer points of driving 4x4s, driving through heaving pits, and pushing hi-fi surfing to its limits.”
Taj sees a lot of similarities between young Dakoda and himself as a frothing grom. “I can tell he just loves doing airs, and getting his board above the lip,” he says. “That’s all I cared about as well.”
