I jumped the turnstile for @kellyslater’s train. Thanks @deuscustoms and @wsl

It’s been a little under four years since the first footage of Kelly Slater’s game-changing tech spinning its wheels in Lemoore first emerged. And in the years since, many a pro surfer, industry exec, pro athlete, and celebrity has had the pleasure. Plus, those with enough excess cash to pay for set waves. That’s not an accusation we’re levying against Surf Ranch’s clientele, just a manner of speaking to explain the place ain’t cheap to play king for a day.

Of those who’ve partaken in Surf Ranch’s man-made perfection, longboarders are definitely in the minority. But, with the new enthusiasm the WSL has injected into its longboard tour by appointing Devon Howard commissioner and adding new locations to the schedule, many longboarders that have stayed away are now on board – literally. One of which is the über-stylish Harrison Roach who splits his time between his native Australia and Bali for much of the year.

It’s in that climate that Roach got an invite to the Surf Ranch, and damn if it doesn’t feel good to see some noseriding and soul arching at a wave that so often gets high-performanced to death.
