The Inertia

Hawaiian surf photographer Keoki Saguibo was revived after being found face down and unconscious in an Indonesian lineup, according to a GoFundMe campaign set up by his brother to cover medical costs and transportation back to Hawaii.

“He is in danger of secondary drowning due to an extreme amount of water in his lungs and is being transported/rushed from his remote location to Singapore for medical treatment,” the page says. “Simply put – insurance does not cover a lot of these extreme emergency medical costs and its big bank. We have been informed that emergency transport and care could be as much as $50,000 back to Hawaii and then some! All the funds will be used for medical emergency care, transport, and rehab. Keoki needs your help now and the entire surfing community will thank you for your generous support!”

As of Thursday morning, the campaign had raised more than $37,000 of a $50,000 goal. At that time, Saguibo, 32, was awaiting a plane to Singapore, said an update on the page.

Praying that my baby is ok. Still haven’t got much word of how is doing after being found floating face down next to his board. He is off the grid with not much service but please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as I’m still waiting for word that he is fine and walking ❤️? Love you Keoki Update: Finally got to speak to Keoki and he is ok, alive. Heading to Singapore on an air evacuation jet to get an MRI to make sure his back is ok. Still not able to walk. Also worried of possible secondary drowning because of water taken in while he was unconscious. Thank you for everyone’s thoughts and kind words. Hate to ask for anyone’s help but I think he’s really going to need it in this situation becuase boy doesn’t even have a credit card and his medical bills are going to be out of this world. Link will be in my bio if you want to help him out:) Thank you Thank you
