The Inertia

There are very few people in the world who start their day by calling dad to see if he wants to go surf double overhead Pipe. Granted, some of that equation is decided by geography, but most of it is just flat-out hitting the gene pool jackpot in a family lineage that’s groomed multiple generations of North Shore legends. Mason Ho is a part of that very, very small club because he A) grew up surfing Pipe and B) his last name is Ho. He’s also one of the only people who could make such a phone call and find that pops is already in the thick of it all packing mind surf-worthy barrels at Backdoor.

The familiarity Mason has with Pipe on its best days (like this one) is nothing short of astounding. Scoring a handful of waves on one of the best days of the year is one thing, but to come away from a couple of sessions with nearly a half-hour of throaty, ridiculous tubes like this would probably require an entire season from even many pros. Enjoy close to 30 minutes of mostly the younger Ho putting on a clinic at Pipe.
