The Inertia

As the wave pool experience continues to elude the general public because of price and exclusivity, innovations are being made to standing waves which are already in use around the globe. While not as dynamic as pools – with train cars running down the middle, pushing water over artificial reefs – standing waves in places like Munich, Boise, and Bend allow for a low-cost solution.

And then there’s this: the UNIT Surf Pool (above). It’s modeled after the Munich wave and other standing, in-river features, and can be placed in any body of water deep enough – like a lake or river. The wave is powerful and yes, it looks really, really fun. All of the water is recycled, too. UNIT Parktech, which is developing the device, is based out of Germany.
