Getting a surf sponsor is a dream for many kids. They practice and practice and practice actually surfing in hopes that someone will notice and give them a sticker and a t-shirt. Sadly, though, very few actually get those stickers and t-shirts, despite the fact that, because of all the practicing, they absolutely rip. But surfing well isn’t enough! Instead, you need to pretend that you don’t care. You need to surf strange surfboards. You need to do what everyone else is doing, even if they’re all pretending to be doing something different. It’s the ultimate irony!
