There are some things in life that are either really tough or completely impossible to stay on the fence with. Right wing or left wing. Michael or Lebron. *NSYNC or Backstreet Boys. Regular or goofy foot.
In surfing, most people are one or the other. Kelly wouldn’t be the same person going frontside at Pipe and backside at Backdoor. Rob Machado wouldn’t be Rob Machado if he surfed with his left foot forward. Or, you know, we could just take footage of Dane Reynolds (like this Youtuber did), do a little video editing magic, and turn him into a goofy foot. Spoiler alert: Dane still looks like he surfs better than 99.9% of the world here, but you have to admit even the thought of him going backside on a righthand point just feels…off.
