The Inertia

Matt Archbold’s a legend. Back in the late ’70s, he started paving the road to becoming one of the most influential people in surfing. Along with Christian Fletcher, he turned the surf world on its head, pushing the aerial movement to new heights. Like many, though, Archbold had his demons. The bottle often got the best of him, and he quickly developed a long list of arrests. Andy Irons often said that Archbold was one of his greatest influences, according to The Encyclopedia of Surfing.

At fifteen, he dropped out of high school and became a full time professional surfer. The tour, though, wasn’t for him, and after spending a few years competing, he became something that didn’t exactly exist yet: a free surfer. By the time he was 25, he was very successful at it, and became a staple at Off the Wall–which is where the house you can buy is located.

On a 4000 sqft lot, the Archbold house was built in 1990. Back in Feb of last year, it was purchased for just shy of a million bucks, and now it’s on the market for $2.2 million. So if you’ve got $2 million to burn, here’s your chance to own the place that Archbold called home… and a solid chunk of the North Shore.
