The Inertia

Over the weekend, superstorm Jonas pummeled the East Coast. Most people took the opportunity to hibernate in their abodes with wine and Netflix. But others took advantage of it. Like the guy who strapped into his snowboard and shredded downtown Manhattan. Or Balaram Stack and Pat Schmidt who braved the shoreside whiteout and scored some slushy barrels.

If you’ve ever gone skiing or snowboarding during a whiteout then you’ll know how frustrating and scary the sensory deprivation can be. Now imagine surfing in that scenario during a sizable swell, rogue waves appearing out of nowhere, your surfing companions disappearing in the snowy abyss. Luckily for Pat and Bal, the weather eased up and allowed for some clean, yet bone-chillingly cold, conditions. The boys scored some classic chocolatey North Eastern barrels. You can bet they were grateful for the mere ability to see their boards beneath their feet.
