The Inertia

We saw a lot of Indo this summer. It witnessed potentially the best swell many of us have seen or will ever see in our lifetimes, and that meant plenty of people flocked to the Indian Ocean for fear of missing out. But looking back, Asher Pacey doesn’t seem like he was too preoccupied with hitting up the same waves that would attract massive crowds.

So rather than dialing in on popular forecasts and arriving with those crowds, he sniffed out the places others ignored when the Century Swell rolled through. An expedition was plotted out for the exact spots the masses thought would be off, and the result was pumping, uncrowded surf. “When you look back at it, it’s like wow what a journey,” Pacey says.

Yeah, we bet. Five islands in seven days with next to nobody around? Sounds like one helluva trip.

Every trip inches closer to perfection when there's nobody else around.
