The Inertia

I was born in the 70’s during the height of home movies shot on Super 8mm. After watching reels from my childhood I wanted the same look and feel for filming my family and friends during special events, and I wanted it for surfing. I went on eBay and bought a couple Super 8 cameras, the Canon 814 and waterproof Eumig Nautica, ordered Vision3 50D film from Kodak and I was ready to test it all out. I could have waited for a better swell to show up but I was too excited. The result was pure fun. Everyone was stoked to wave at the camera.

I’m a photo enthusiast and regularly shoot 35mm and medium format as hobby with a new desire to make motion pictures. Recently I was lucky enough to acquire thousands of feet of 16mm film from a local studio that closed. Naturally I had to buy a couple 16mm cameras to accommodate all that pretty film. My new plan is to shoot a surf flick on Big Island and Oahu over the next few months and also incorporate Super 8.
