The Inertia

This story started off as a passion project and a simple way to test out some new gear. We wanted to pay homage to our local shapers.

The amount of time and energy the artist and craftsmen put into their work can never really be accounted for. Artists do what they do because they have passion and a calling. Some people will call bullshit on the whole “calling” thing, but these are the people who wouldn’t understand anyway. That’s ok if they are confused.

This calling though, she is unexplainable to others who aren’t the artists themselves. How the hell do you quantify spending everything you have,  all your time, and all your money following something that may never pay you back financially? From an outsiders perspective it’s not the smartest of decisions.

But what if you can’t ignore her? That’s the tough part. Committing to her, giving everything to her and not expecting anything in return. This is love at it’s core. Love of the work, the struggle, the pain, dirt and strife. And maybe every once in awhile she’ll give you a small victory. Only it won’t come in a windfall of cash. These are small things keeping you motivated.

People like Bob Mitsven and Rick Clow have heard their siren’s call and the world is a little better because they followed her.

This video is for the artists and craftsmen who have worked their asses off for decades. Not a few years – a few fucking decades – perfecting what they do, not because it makes any sense, but because they have to.
