The Inertia

Hurricane Erin was a bit of a mixed bag, at least as far as Europe was concerned. While American East Coast surfers had their eager anticipation rewarded with weeks of wild (if somewhat unpredictable) swell, when the storm turned its eye towards the other side of the Atlantic, things got a little dicier.

On the other hand, when things did work out, conditions were incredible. One place where the stars aligned was the famed slab at Mullaghmore. True to form, Portuguese big wave charger Nic von Rupp was there to eke out every last moment inside the barrel.

“Crazy late summer Hurricane Erin swell hit Mullaghmore, Ireland, delivering towering Irish slabs and massive waves, captured in super slow motion from the water,” wrote von Rupp in the caption. “The rare end of summer storm unleashed XL waves on Mullaghmore, calling big wave surfers from around the globe to this epic session.”
