The Inertia

Why not get away from the crowds every now and then? The simplest answer is that getting a wave to yourself, or to share with just a select group of friends, is a million times easier said than done. The sport of surfing is largely concentrated in a thick band of warm water around the equator. And the further you get away from those boundaries the more scarce the population of surfers gets.

Sure, Northern California is cold and crowded. Just like a few other places with thriving surf communities. But they’re not Iceland cold. Dominga Valdes doesn’t exactly live and surf in a place with tropical waters herself, but that doesn’t make chasing after the perfect wave in Iceland any less adventurous. Besides, if it takes you away from all the crowds isn’t it worth it all?
