The Inertia

Indonesia isn’t a place that screams “slabs.” It’s a place that screams “perfect waves,” but slabs aren’t what the archipelago is well-known for. That doesn’t mean they don’t exist, though, and this setup in Java is basically a perfect example of a slab.

“Waves surge out of deep water and suck hard over a flat section of reef producing super hollow lefts, with rides only lasting a few seconds long,” reads the video description on Always Left, a YouTube channel dedicated to Indonesian surf content. “It’s no surprise that it’s normally swarming with bodyboarders here, but not while we were visiting.”

This certainly isn’t a wave for everyone, but if you’re the type of surfer who is willing to commit 100 percent and is willing to huck yourself off a ledge breaking over a few shallow inches… well, this is the wave for you.
