The Billabong Pro Tahiti was full of moments to remember, but perhaps none as up close and personal as this. While most everyone was relegated to views from the channel, their computer screen, or a TV, Kelly Slater provides the most intimate POV you could hope for.
Hopping inside this cavern at Chopes gives you a sense (second hand, of course) of what that ride is like. This is a comprehensive experience – everything from watching the slab bear down on you, jack up on the reef, the heart-in-your-throat drop, the fire hydrant spit out and flicking out into the channel. Now you just have to make it there and snag one yourself.
