With a 200 mph hunting dive, the Peregrine Falcon is the fastest member of the animal kingdom. So it’s only fitting that Channel Islands surfboards named their latest, fastest shortboard ever after the bird. The board, which Dane Reynolds helped collaborate on, is built for nothing but speed. As explained in the promo by Al’s son Britt Merrick, it features a standard outline. But the board has less rocker, a flat deck, and some of the craziest looking channels you’ve ever seen.
“You get this board, you’re probably gonna surf just like Dane,” Britt says. “Probably not. But you’re gonna rip anyway.”
Britt’s probably right. Dane’s a freak of nature and no one can surf like him, especially in pumping beachbreaks or point breaks like Rincon. The Peregrine is perfect for the latter – a long, reeling wave with plenty of opportunity to get the rails wet. While you won’t be surfing like Dane anytime soon, at least this is a step in the right direction.
