Jeffrey’s Bay is a wave that plays well to powerful, fast surfing. The beauty of a good highline and wide, gouging turns is accentuated by the wave. By the same token, however, it is a wave that exposes flaws. The night before a day you know is going to be filled with perfect waves can be the best kind of torture. It can be sleepless; tossing and turning, thinking of how much you need to be well rested to fully take advantage of what’s on the horizon—especially when you’ve traveled a very long way for it. It’s Christmas for a surfer. Tanner and Pat Gudauskas, along with Dylan Graves, went there with high hopes… and it paid off.
