There’s no single way Championship Tour athletes navigate their annual schedules. Some travel light, some have an entourage of friends, coaches, significant others, filmers, photographers, and so on, some bring their spouses and children with them. It seems Jack Robinson is firmly in that latter category because there’s rarely a heat without cameos of his wife, Julia Muniz, and son, Zen, rooting him on from the beach.
And who could blame him? The CT is a grind. The typical year on tour consists of about 10 contests, give or take, spread out over eight or nine months. This year, WSL athletes are packing 10 regular season contests across eight countries and only six and a half months. The athletes who qualify for the Final Five can tack on another contest, another month of staying on top of their game, and booking another stop in the South Pacific (Fiji). That doesn’t leave much space on the calendar for downtime at home.
From the looks of it, Jack Robinson is really soaking up the good fortune of having his family with him on the road. His time in Brazil for last month’s Rio Pro was a full family affair. As a new dad, he’s living a truly unique experience — learning the ropes of fatherhood while traveling the world. And he still has time for good waves.
